It’s official, I am now doing portraits.
After having done a surprise commission for my friend Angela (see here), I noticed that it was a lot easier for me to draw a real person’s face than it used to be. It helped that she looks like the characters I usually draw and maybe that was just it…my mind had a segway to connect the cartoon artwork I’ve been doing with more realistic representation.
The result? Keep reading. This is my sister Bree:
She’s quite animated herself.
I used the above reference pictures and of course my memory of what she looks like. I haven’t seen her in person for a year now but she’s coming out to visit me in just a week, I’ll see how well I really did…
The mood is different than in the photos but I was going for a more relaxed effect. I decided to play with a slightly different colouring style which I think I’ll be sticking to now at least for the sake of portraits. It scales up really nice and will look amazing printed on a big canvas.
