I’ve been busy…

Stuff’s been going on.

Firstly, I hope you had an excellent New Year, mine was rather nice.  There has been so much going on (ups and downs but all good things) that I have not had the chance to get back to you until just now.  I feel as though this past month has been a year in itself.  Allow me to bring you up to speed:

Grouse Mountain - Altitudes Bistro

My New Year’s day was much more eventful than the Eve that came before it.. namely because I spent it in my favourite place of refuge in Vancouver… Grouse Mountain. Incidentally, the Altitudes Bistro (above) is my favourite place to eat .  I came up beyond the clouds at 3900 feet to view the sunset on the first day of what I know will be a fantastic year.  Funny though, my camera ran out of memory just moments before the above picture became the most incredible thing I’ve witnessed in a long time.

The sunset photo below was not taken by me but by my friend Brad who caught it from his home in Sechelt, BC (Sunshine Coast) that very same day.  From the top of Grouse Mountain, it was the most amazing sunset I had ever seen.  I sat there in awe of the fact that I was up there that day to see it…no camera, just me and my witnessing eyes.

Not only was I enthralled by this sunset but it gave me the sense that something great is on the horizon, more over that I am already involved in something great… life itself looked like a fantasy movie to me, the visuals for a moment looked like an artistic masterpiece.   It was brief, fleeting and beautiful.

Speaking of which, I have some artwork of my own to show you.  Some Christmas commissions and a couple others…

- CRAIG GODDESS -

This baby was commissioned by a friend for my best buddy Craig for Christmas.  We printed it on stretched canvas, damn it looks nice.

Elliot deserved a special Christmas gift this year.  This is a portrayal of a character he created for a role playing game.  The satin-printed scroll that I put together (with the help of Brian who has his own printing machine) now hangs in the living room right beside his monster computer setup.

In my last story I talked about my excellent client Allie.  After about 9 months of not hearing from her at all I had started to wonder where she was and how she was doing.  Fortunately, she has recently reappeared alive and well and she had another drawing request for me!  This is a recent portrayal of a classic character she has been role playing – Asphodel.  Asphodel has now been transported into a new online role play game and is here portrayed in my own drawing style.  Her website kissmybuns.net features her self-produced videos, archives and stories of her adventures and the full collection of artwork I have done for her over the last 3 years, check it out.

The first in a recent collection of work I am putting together.  I plan to do a show once the collection is done called “National Pride”, haha.

A second installation.  I have some pretty awesome plans for framing these babies but even more awesome is the plan I have for the art show – or party.

So, there’s been something else occupying my time.

I recently decided to make my own natural spray deodorant.  Why? Well my favourite one is no longer sold in Canada and I wanted one that smelled just as good or better and that was just as effective at keeping me fresh.  So I went off for a day to discover the various ingredients I was to use.  It’s a long story, one I will save for a proper post of it’s own but suffice to say that I found the ingredients I wanted, put the thing together and BAM.  It was nice, REAL nice.  So much so that people have been knocking my door down for it.

So, after I cover a few logistical bases it will officially hit the market.  I can’t tell you much more than that right now but don’t worry, I’ll keep you in the loop – you can expect a full story on that one real soon.  You can also reply to this post and I’ll add you to my quickly-growing deodorant spray mailing list and you’ll be the first to know when it becomes available.

Let’s see what else…

I feel that I’m becoming more of the person that I’ve been dreaming of being for some time.  Or, maybe simply more of my natural self with less limitations.   I find it’s hard sometimes to keep focused on the positive when I hit the hard truths that life can present to me but as I persevere the good stuff always becomes apparent and clear in every experience.

My good friend Craig, after recently loosing most of his core family members to either death or illness  all in this past year has been re-united with his original birth mother who had put him up for adoption when he was a baby.  The journey, understandably has been both intense and incredibly rewarding.  That is another story I will share with you later.

For now, I’ll leave you with this:

I’m in the process of decking out my bedroom and office chair with electric glow wire.  I was inspired when I saw the new TRON Legacy movie.

Just a few tweaks and the ceiling trim will be done.  This chair is now even cooler than it was when I bought it.  It plugs into the well and runs on battery backup should I decide to unplug it or the power happens to go out.  That applies to the ceiling lights as well.

Now tell me that isn’t the sweetest and most nerdy setup you’ve ever seen.

I’ll leave you with that and I will see you next time!
