You might have gathered that I am a bit of a nerd…
…but a proud one.
About two weeks ago I had this idea for the ultimate umbrella.
It turns out that when I was hanging out with my friend Elizabeth I saw it in a store window… just as I had imagined.
Not only does it resemble a Samurai sword but it’s actually a damn good umbrella. It’s made by a company called Kikkerland (designed by Materious Umbrellas – check out what these guys say about their products – there are actually 3 sword types). The shaft and frame are made of carbon fiber and the umbrella is just big enough to offer cover for two on a rainy day.
Oh, and the powerful spring-loaded opening action is highly satisfying…I get a little rush every time I press that button. It includes a carrying holster with shoulder strap and a nifty tag that quotes Sigmund Freud himself:
You can tell when there’s passion behind a product. I love it.
I walked into a pub with slung over my shoulder in the carrying holster on St. Patrick’s Day. Predictably, I was stopped and told I couldn’t come in with a weapon. Of course I removed the cover to reveal only the best umbrella.

This makes it perfect in every way and now I can practice my sword skills wherever I want…hahaha.
All this Vancouver rain is worth it now.
For me, it’s the simple things in life.
